Jean-Pierre Bobichon

Advisor, liaisons with the civil society and trade unions

Jean-Pierre Bobichon has been special advisor to the Jacques Delors Institute on relations with civil society and trade unions since January 2004. He is a regular speaker at conferences on the European Union, particularly on institutional and social issues, and publishes numerous articles for the trade union and social press.

He is a member of the editorial board of Fil Bleu magazine (CFDT), founder and member of the Bureau of the European Social Protection Institute (IPSE) since 1989, and sits on several boards of directors (ADIFE, FIAP–Jean Monnet, ALJT) and associations (Sauvons l’Europe).

He began his career as a permanent representative at the CFDT Departmental Union in Paris (1974), then secretary general of the CFDT Île-de-France Regional Union and member of the CFDT National Bureau (1978). He supported Solidarnosc in Poland in 1980, working with Lech Walesa, Bronisław Geremek, and Zbigniew Bujak.

In 1986, he joined the European Commission via Jacques Delors’ cabinet, working in the DG for Information and the DG for Education, Audiovisual and Culture, where he was responsible for trade union and civil relations. He participated in the information campaign on the Maastricht Treaty (1992) before joining the Jacques Delors Institute in 2003 at the request of Jacques Delors.

Jean-Pierre Bobichon describes himself as self-taught, trained at the JOC and the CFDT, and is fluent in French in a professional context.
