Pierre Mirel

Pierre Mirel is Honorary Director-General at the European Commission. Much of his career has been devoted to issues related to the accession of Central and Eastern European countries to the European Union. After 2004, he focused mainly on the Western Balkans region, notably as Director for Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, and Kosovo. He continues to travel frequently to the Balkans to participate in seminars and provide volunteer training.

His activities also include teaching at Sciences Po (2010-2022), contributing to the book Géopolitique de la démocratisation : l’Europe et ses voisinages (Presses de Sciences Po, 2014) and writing numerous articles and policy papers.
