The Jacques Delors Institut – Berlin organises a debate about the future of the European energy security and the Nord Stream 2 project, following on the Study “From the European Energy Community to the Energy Union – A new Policy Proposal” published by the Jacques Delors Institute.

We are delighted to invite you to our panel discussion “Nord Stream 2 and the Future of the European Energy Security”.

Thursday, 12 May 2016
6 – 7:45 pm
Hertie School of Governance, Friedrichstrasse 180, 10117 Berlin

The pipeline project Nord Stream 2 represents the most politically contentious energy infrastructure project in the EU. While Nord Stream 2 receives political support from Germany, some countries have been calling for consideration of the envisaged pipeline as a “geopolitical risk”. Is Nord Stream 2 dividing Europe or does it only uncover the fundamental differences towards provision of energy security among the Member States?

Together with our guests we would like to discuss the future of the European energy security and stipulate a debate on the ways of improving the efficiency of the common EU response in energy. Their thoughts and ideas will share

Dr. Kirsten Westphal, SWP-Berlin
Sami Andoura, European Political Strategy Centre
Dr. Georg Zachmann, Bruegel Institut
Ulrich Lissek, Nord Stream 2 AG
Adam Janczak, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland

Opening Statement: Jean-Arnold Vinois, Energy Union Adviser to the Jacques Delors Institute
Moderation: Dr. Franziska Holz, DIW Berlin

The event will take place in English.
