Over the past year(s), our ever-connecting world has experienced a much higher degree of tumult, fluidity, and rancour that in the past few decades. From the spectacular renaissance of geopolitics in various regions, the persistence of exacerbating human tragedies in the Middle East and elsewhere, and the rise in populism, protectionism, illiberalism, extremism, etc. all are profound challenges for global governance. Against the complex global and regional backdrop described above, Europe’s position, role and mission in the world is continuously challenged and questioned. From its exposure to multiple crises, and its inability to often (re)act with a united voice and in a concerted manner, to the lack of solidarity in its external approach and its lack of unity in dealing with very transnational, transversal challenges, Europe is often seem lacking.
In order to discuss the current state and future dynamics within the framework of the roadmap the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) wants to draw, Elvire Fabry is invited to participate, along with senior policymakers, policy-experts and representatives from the European Parliament and the European Commission, in a Review Meeting on EU’s external action vis-à-vis the multipolar world order and the multilateral system. In the course of this meeting, participants discuss the current situation in Europe, the key questions that need to be addressed and the corresponding key decisions the European Union would be called to make in the next future.
