Two questions arise: Why the Ukrainian bid is not a “bid like any other” and how the EU can respond in a constructive and proactive manner. Our session will provide an overview of the difficulties and risks involved in this important application, in an attempt to prioritise them. At a time when enlargement is gaining renewed interest in the European political agenda, we will discuss the different ways in which the process can be designed with all stakeholders, including public opinion.
Moderator: Lukáš Macek, Head of the Centre Grande Europe of the Jacques Delors Institute
Speakers: Sébastien Maillard, Director of the Jacques Delors Institute; Bernard Guetta, MEP of the French delegation; Pierre Mirel, Honorary Director General at the European Commission, Advisor to the Centre Grande Europe; Hugues Mingarelli, former ambassador, EU representative in Ukraine.
