The “Franco-German cultural meetings” is an annual event gathering high-level European personnalities from politics, researchers, journalists or experts in culture to make them debate on the foundations of our political and civic societies to identify a viable model for the future of Europe. This year’s topic “Democracies in crisis” invite us to re-evaluate the rise of populist parties and movements across the European Union and how this political trend affect the fundamental values of European democracies.
If you want more information on this event, you can consult the website of the city of Freiburg as well as the program. We also invite you to read the last publications of the Jacques Delors Institute on European democracies and democracy in Europe, notably the policy paper “Democratic crises in the EU : Towards New Frontiers” (14/11/2017).
