Europe is facing turbulent times. In recent years, the European Union has been challenged by different major crises. Due to these hardships, relations between the European partners have suffered significantly, which results in a lack of mutual understanding, cooperation, and sometimes even in resentful feelings. This makes a constructive collaboration for a shared European future even more difficult.
In order to counter this development, and to establish and support a shared understanding of our common challenges, the Berlin-based think tank Das Progressive Zentrum, in cooperation with the German Foreign Office, has initiated the Project “Dialogue on Europe: Rebuilding trust and redefining Europe in tough times”. In the course of this project, representatives from the civil society from France, Greece, Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Germany will enter into a constructive dialogue to discuss common European issues and to develop new political ideas, which will be spread into the public and political sphere eventually.
This two-year-long dialogue has started its bilateral stage with the first #EuropeanTownHall Meetings in Athens, Lisbon and Rome involving the keenest minds and thought leaders in the country from all walks of public life. Our next meeting will take place in Marseille on Thursday, 26 May 2016, in cooperation with the Institut Jacques Delors and the Friche la Belle de Mai. The event offers a valuable opportunity for participants to cooperatively identify and discuss how challenges in the fields of Sustainable Growth, Migration and Integration, Social Cohesion and Populism can best be addressed.
The Town Hall Meeting is moderated by Isabelle MARAS, Associate Researcher, Centre international de formation européenne (CIFE)
