Our founding president, Jacques Delors, celebrates his 90th birthday: all the members of the Jacques Delors Institute send him their wishes of health and happiness. They seize this opportunity to publish the letter Donald Tusk sent to Jacques Delors wishing him a happy birthday and detailing the reasons which have led the European Council to award Jacques Delors the title of “Honorary Citizen of Europe”.
Among the elements of Donald Tusk’s letter: “To all members of the European Council, the choice was clear: you are the worthy successor to our first generation of founding fathers“.
Among the elements of the appendix to Donald Tusk letter: “The triptych” Competition that stimulates, cooperation that strengthens, and solidarity that unites” is Jacques Delors’ defining European cornerstone. He understood deeply the profound nature of our common construction, encapsulated in his concept of a “Federation of Nation States”.
Throughout 2015, the Jacques Delors Institute echoes the anniversary of the Delors Commission (1985-1995) by implementing its works on the theme of “The Commission leadership and the governance of Europe” and by proceeding to the organization and valorization of Jacques Delors’ personal archives.
