On 4 November, the European Commission will present its “Enlargement Package”, accompanied by roadmaps for the accession of several candidate countries. It has also recently put forward proposals to prepare the European Union for this new horizon. These ideas must still be discussed and approved by the 27 current Member States, taking into account both the lessons learned from previous accessions and public opinion, which is sometimes reluctant, particularly in France.

The event offers an opportunity to explore the challenges raised by an issue that has become more strategically important than ever, in a geopolitical landscape reshaped by the war in Ukraine, an increasingly unpredictable United States, and ongoing transitions in the Balkans.

The Maison de l’Europe de Paris is organising a café debate on this timely issue in partnership with the Centre Grande Europe of the Jacques Delors Institute. This event is organised as part of the activities of Europe Direct Paris.
