About:

Having regained its place as a priority for the European Union following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the accession process of several candidate countries could soon reach its conclusion.

In France, the ratification of any new accession may be put to a referendum. French citizens will therefore have a say in the European future of candidate countries – a future that is also closely linked to their own.

More reason to take a closer look at EU enlargement: Who are the candidate countries? Where do they stand in the accession process? What risks and opportunities do enlargement entail? Is it time for the European Union to overcome its fear of growing further?

The event will be followed by a screening of the Albanian film The Last Prisoner, by Bujar Alimani, at Cinéma Darcy on 6 November at 20:00 (€6 cinema club rate), in the presence of the Ambassador of Albania, H.E. Dritan Tola. This event is organised as a satellite event of the European Commission’s 2026 EU Enlargement Forum. Find out more about the Forum here.
