[FR] Euroquestion #12 | How should public debt be managed in the wake of Covid?

To deal with the Covid-19 crisis, EU Member States have taken on massive debt, supported by the ECB’s purchase of public debt. They have also, for the first time, agreed on joint debt at the European level.

While debate rages in the United States over a new massive stimulus package, Europe is more hesitant. Fundamental questions arise for its policymakers: will public debt be sustainable in the EU? What are we borrowing for and who will foot the bill? What budgetary rules should apply to Member States in a post-Covid world?

To address these questions, we are pleased to welcome Andreas Eisl, researcher at the Jacques Delors Institute. With questions already being raised about the repayment of public debt following the pandemic and a return to European budgetary rules, our webinar will decipher the new challenges of debt in Europe before exploring strategies that will help states emerge from the Covid-19 crisis in better shape than they did from the last economic crisis.
