[FR] Euroquestions #102 | Geopolitical Europe: one more push!

Europeans have made considerable efforts to support Ukraine, both militarily and diplomatically, even though the European Union has structural and political limitations in terms of defence. Despite massive financial and humanitarian mobilisation, the EU is struggling to establish itself as an autonomous strategic player: dependence on the United States remains strong, as evidenced by the unbalanced trade agreement of 27 July. Furthermore, the absence of peace makes any security guarantee for Ukraine hypothetical, especially since neither Russia nor the United States is making a clear commitment. European defence governance is contested by some Member States, particularly when the European Commission oversteps its powers. Finally, the EU has not yet proposed its own peace plan, contenting itself with unconditional support for Kyiv. In this context, is geopolitical Europe really feasible? Can it become a credible pillar of continental security without clarification of its responsibilities, real strategic autonomy and its own diplomatic vision?
To discuss this, we are pleased to welcome Nicole Gnesotto, Vice-President of the Jacques Delors Institute and an expert on geopolitical issues.
