[FR] Euroquestions #17 | What place does Europe have in Scottish nationalism?

While the Scottish parliamentary elections on 6 May 2021 confirmed the dominance of the Scottish National Party, they also saw a significant increase in support for the Greens, who are also in favour of Scottish independence. Together, these two parties have an absolute majority in favour of independence. It is therefore no surprise that the Scottish First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, has once again taken a firm stance in favour of a referendum on self-determination, which London currently refuses to grant. Has the issue of Brexit, which more than 60% of Scots voted against, strengthened their desire for independence? What are the driving forces behind Scottish nationalism? And what place does Europe have in this Scottish nationalist project?
To answer these questions, we will welcome Aziliz Gouez, associate researcher on European identity and political symbolism at the Jacques Delors Institute.
