[FR] Euroquestions #20 | Slovenia: what kind of European presidency?

Slovenia will begin its second Presidency of the Council of the European Union on 1 July 2021 against a backdrop of tensions between the European institutions and the government of Prime Minister Janez Janša. The issue of non-compliance with the rule of law has been raised several times by part of the European Parliament, which has denounced the Slovenian government’s abuses in terms of corruption, press freedom and justice.

However, the Slovenian government has also recently shown some ambition for this Presidency of the European Union, notably by putting on the table issues such as democracy in Belarus, which fall within the scope of the EU’s external action.

To analyse the challenges of the European semester ahead, we welcome Lukas Macek, associate researcher at the Jacques Delors Institute, Central and Eastern Europe, and Director of the Sciences Po campus in Dijon.
