[FR] Euroquestions #29 | Adequate Minimum Wages in the EU and Pay Equality: Two Priorities for the French Presidency

In October 2020, the European Commission published its proposal for a directive on “adequate minimum wages” in the European Union to ensure that every worker receives a decent wage. The legislation aims to make national minimum wage levels across Europe more adequate, improve workers’ access to this protection, and promote collective bargaining on wages within the EU.
The 27 Member States and the European Parliament adopted their respective positions at the end of 2021, allowing negotiations between the two institutions and the Commission (trilogues) to begin in January 2022, under the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union — a priority file for the French leadership.
Another wage-related issue is also on the French Presidency’s agenda: the proposed directive on pay transparency, aimed at strengthening pay equality between men and women.
To better understand the stakes of these two files, we will welcome Klervi Kerneïs, Research Assistant on Social Issues at the Jacques Delors Institute, for the first edition of Euroquestions in 2022.
