[FR] Euroquestions #52 | What is the status of enlargement to the Balkans?

A new EU-Western Balkans summit is being held on 6 December in Tirana. While Jean-Claude Juncker had closed the door to any enlargement during his term of office, the war in Ukraine and his candidacy have put the subject of enlargement back on the European agenda, even though the accession processes of the Balkan countries have been stalled for several years. Where do Albania, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Kosovo stand in their relations with the EU? What feelings does the Union inspire in the region? When is accession a realistic prospect?

These questions will be addressed by Lukas Macek, associate researcher at the Jacques Delors Institute and director of the Dijon campus of SciencesPo, who will head the future Greater Europe Centre dedicated to enlargement issues at our think tank.
