[FR] Euroquestions #77 | A summit in La Hulpe for social Europe

During his 2015 State of the Union address, then-European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker floated the idea of a ‘compass’ to guide Europe towards ‘protecting EU workers.’ In November 2017, in Gothenburg, Sweden, the idea took shape with the adoption of the European Pillar of Social Rights.
On 15 and 16 April 2024, a social summit will be held in La Hulpe, Belgium, with the aim of ‘signing a formal declaration at the highest level to set the priorities for the 2024-2029 strategic agenda’. This follows on from the 2021 social summit in Porto, Portugal.
What can we expect from this summit? How can the 20 key social principles for the EU be achieved? With what budget, given that social Europe is a shared competence and rarely a priority?
We are pleased to welcome Philippe Pochet, advisor on social affairs at the Jacques Delors Institute, to discuss these issues.
