[FR] Euroquestions #81 | EU candidate countries react to election results

Regardless of the results of the European elections on 9 June, the countries applying for membership of the European Union will remain committed to the negotiation process. Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia and Ukraine are at different stages of their discussions with Brussels, while Turkey’s application remains at a standstill and Kosovo is awaiting a response to its application for membership submitted at the end of 2022.
The next five years will be decisive for the future of EU enlargement: will the new Commission appointed by the Parliament elected on 9 June continue or even step up the momentum for a proactive relaunch, which began in the wake of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine? What consequences can be expected from the EU citizens’ vote on the continuation of the EU’s enlargement policy? How do the candidate countries perceive the election results? What influence would a new, more Eurosceptic majority in the European Parliament have on the accession negotiations?
We are pleased to welcome Lukas Macek, Head of the Greater Europe Centre at the Jacques Delors Institute.
