[FR] Euroquestions #97: Is the “reset” of British relations with the EU becoming a reality?

On 19 May, European and British leaders will meet in London. Since coming to power, Keir Starmer’s Labour government has set itself the goal of improving relations with the EU after years of turmoil following Brexit. In addition to security discussions, this summit aims to revive EU-UK relations more broadly and thus initiate more in-depth discussions. Why has the “reset” sought by London remained so measured so far? Is a strategic rapprochement possible? What concessions would the British government and the EU-27 be prepared to make? How can this new dynamic be reconciled with geopolitical tensions, the trade war and the return of Trump, with whom London also wants to maintain a privileged relationship?

We are pleased to welcome Sébastien Maillard, special adviser at the Jacques Delors Institute, from London to talk to us about the challenges of a possible rapprochement.
