Join us for this new event in the PSIA-JDI trade series for a critical assessment of the trade agenda of the second Trump administration. Following the unprecedented use of tariffs that defined economic discussions in 2025, a landmark US Supreme Court ruling striking down the sweeping use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act has sent a shockwave through global markets. With billions in potential refunds at stake and the White House’s immediate pivot to across-the-board tariffs, the era of trade uncertainty is entering a volatile new chapter. What does this legal and economic whiplash mean for European economic security, firms, and consumers?

Featuring leading trade economists Chad Bown, Senior Fellow, Peterson Institute for International Economics and former Chief Economist,US Department of State and Thierry Mayer, Professor of Economics at Sciences Po-Paris, this panel dissects the fallout of the second Trump administration’s trade agenda. The discussion explores the shifting realities of trade patterns and global value chains and what to expect next.

The discussion will be moderated by Elvire Fabry, Director of the ‘Trade and Economic Security’ programme at the Jacques Delors Institute, and will include a Q&A with the audience.
