Henrik Enderlein, Notre Europe’ Associate Fellow will speak at this conference with Kurt Biedekopf, German politician, Sylvie Goulard, member of the European Parliament, John Kornblum, former U.S. ambassador in Germany and Quentin Peel,international affairs editor of the Financial Times
What began as a crisis for the euro has quickly turned into a crisis for the European Union, prompting a series of broader strategic questions: “what is Europe, where is it heading, and who leads it?” Germany has thus far taken the lead in bankrolling and negotiating Europe’s bailout funds, but will Berlin play a similar role in tackling tough political reforms as the balance of power in Europe continues to shift?

– Henrik Enderlein, is Research Associate and Associate Dean and Professor of Political Economy at Hertie School of Governance.
–Kurt Biedekopf, is a German politician. He was prime minister of the Free State of Saxony from 1990 to 2002 and is a member of the Christian Democratic Union.
– Sylvie Goulard, is a member of the European Parliament for the West region of France. She is a member of the Committee for Economic and Monetary Affairs and is group coordinator for the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe. Goulard served as president of the European Movement France from 2006 to 2010.
– John Kornblum, served as U.S. ambassador to Germany from 1997 to 2001. Before that, he occupied a number of high-level diplomatic posts. He is recognized as an eminent expert on U.S.-European political and economic relations, in particular in Central and Eastern Europe. He is currently a non-resident senior adviser at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
– Quentin Peel, is international affairs editor of the Financial Times and has worked there since 1975. Between 1976 and 1994 he served as southern Africa correspondent, Africa editor, European community correspondent and Brussels bureau chief, Moscow correspondent, and chief correspondent in Germany.
