Arnaud Magnier appointed Director of the Jacques Delors Institute

Enrico Letta, President of the Jacques Delors Institute, together with the Institute’s Board of Directors and team, is pleased to announce the appointment of Arnaud Magnier as Director of the Jacques Delors Institute, effective 1 September 2026.
He succeeds Sylvie Matelly, who will continue her work within the Jacques Delors Institute as Defence Economics Advisor.
A career dedicated to Europe and public policy
Arnaud Magnier brings more than twenty years of experience in European affairs and public policy, working within French institutions as well as in the private sector. He has notably served as Director of Institutional Relations and Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the General Secretariat for European Affairs (SGAE), and has worked alongside several Ministers for European Affairs.
More recently, he served as Adviser to the President of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE), where he was notably responsible for European and international affairs, as well as citizen participation.
His career has also been marked by a longstanding civic and community commitment to European integration. Arnaud Magnier notably served as Vice-President of the European Movement-France and as Secretary-General of the Citizens’ Consultations on Europe, launched in 2018 at France’s initiative.
Bringing Jacques Delors’ legacy closer to the public
Arnaud Magnier is also committed to knowledge-sharing and educating the next generation. He teaches European affairs and institutional sociology at Sciences Po, at the National Institute of Public Service (INSP) as part of the Cycle of Advanced European Studies, and at Paris 8 University within the Institute for European Studies.
His experience in dialogue with citizens and civil society stakeholders, his commitment to sharing knowledge and raising awareness of European issues, as well as his in-depth understanding of French and European institutions, will enable him to make a full contribution to the Jacques Delors Institute’s mission: to inform the European debate, foster reflection on the future of the European Union, and help bring Europe closer to its citizens.
“I am deeply honoured by the trust placed in me today as I join the Institute’s journey, which began 30 years ago. I am also very proud to lead a team fully committed to advancing the European project championed by Jacques Delors, alongside all those inspired by his political vision”.
