In their book “Democracy in Europe – Looking further ahead”, Sylvie Goulard and Mario Monti call for a democracy by the people and for the people. They analyse the current situation and look “further ahead”. Valentin Kreilinger synthesises the four main topics of institutional nature: the role of the heads of state and government, the job of “rethinking the Economic and Monetary Union”, the issue of differentiation and the parliamentary control.

In their book Democracy in Europe – Looking further ahead, Sylvie Goulard and Mario Monti call for a
democracy by the people and for the people. They analyse the current situation
and look “further ahead”. Valentin Kreilinger synthesises the main four topics

Based on a philosophical
framework around Alexis de Tocqueville, the two authors insist “that democracy [should]
no longer be sacrificed” (p. 22), but “democracy
is not just a value in and of itself, it is also the precondition for
sustainable action.” (p. 8)
