[FR] Democracy, market, governance – What does the future hold? by Jacques Lesourne

Jacques Lesourne wanted to examine national political systems and, in particular, the prospects for democracy as a political system for the entire planet. ‘Was the spread of democracy the most plausible hypothesis?’ To answer this question, he used the concept of a triad defined by democracy, market and governance, three words that interact constantly but also interfere with each other, particularly between the national and global levels and between politics and economics. Consequently, and in order to explore the subject in greater depth, the author considers a second triad, this time represented by states, societies and civilisations, because in order to make a valid prospective exercise of the first triad, it is necessary to take into account subjects related to the second triad, such as the evolution of states, the coexistence of different organisations, and the place of states, societies and civilisations in the global system. The book thus unfolds as a historical analysis of the movements surrounding these two triads, leading to a prospective exercise on the future of states and political systems.
