Summary of the 3rd edition of the Etats Généraux de l’Europe (European Citizens’ Conference) held in Strasbourg on 17 April 2010.

Europe is currently at a key moment in its history. The global landscape is undergoing lasting changes. An unprecedented economic and financial crisis is compounded by growing environmental, food and demographic challenges. Nothing less than our ability to influence the world is at stake. As Europeans, it is our responsibility to think about our common future.
What will we do with the legacy left to us by the founding fathers Shuman, Monnet, Adenauer, De Gasperi and Spaak?

Do we want to be the architects of a ‘better world’, to quote Jean Monnet? The aim of the Etats Généraux de l’Europe, a major event for European civil society, is to contribute to the implementation of solutions to these challenges. More than just a day of debate, it is first and foremost a collective dynamic.

Through it, we are initiating a citizens’ movement, which is the result of a year of work on the themes, organisation and mobilisation. The outcome of this process is a certain spirit, marked by the desire to contribute to the general interest of Europeans…
