[FR] François Lamoureux, architect of Europe

François Lamoureux’s multifaceted commitment to the European project, combined with his extraordinary abilities, has left behind invaluable written records in his documents, which are now held at the Historical Archives of the European Union in Florence. The inventory of some 800 files that now make up the “François Lamoureux” collection gives an indication of the scope of the policies that he directly influenced. Notable milestones include the White Paper on the Internal Market with a view to the Single European Act, the White Paper on Growth, Competitiveness and Employment, enlargement to Central and Eastern Europe, and the pioneering Penelope project aimed at establishing a European constitutional treaty.
The expert seminar on “François Lamoureux, architect of Europe” aimed to pay tribute to the senior official and highlight the importance of his contribution despite his untimely death in 2006 at the age of 59. The contributions from experts and close associates of François Lamoureux in this collection are supported by various testimonials and tributes, as well as reproductions of documents, many of which are now kept at Villa Salviati.
