Notre Europe has opened the debate on the Community method by publishing two Briefs on decision-making in the EU. Florence Chaltiel Terral now takes her turn to weigh in on the debate.
Isn’t the Community method obsolete, if only because of its name? The European Union has replaced the Communities, and the adjective “Community” now has only historical significance, notwithstanding the principle of the acquis communautaire. Should we consider that the Community method, which made the Communities and then the Union so successful, is no longer useful? Or should we not rely solely on terms but also reflect on the idea behind them?
