[FR] Public opinion in Romania, Bulgaria, and Croatia and the European Union: contrasting developments in the three newest EU Member States

While Croatia was admitted to the Schengen Area (and at the same time to the eurozone) in 2023, ten years after joining the European Union, Romania and Bulgaria, despite having been EU members since 2007, were still waiting at the door until a decision was taken last December to admit them in 2024 – but only partially.

One of the main reasons for the reservations expressed about these two countries was their presumed inability to contain the migratory flows that are particularly feared by some Member States, in a more general context of reforms deemed too slow, unresolved corruption and unstable political situations.
