This synthesis sets out to illustrate the main arguments and ideas expounded by Ulrich Beck in his latest book German Europe.
Ideas developed are the following:
1. Europe torn apart by the crisis;
2. A new balance of forces in Europe;
3. Germany, an accidental empire;
4. The “Merkiavelli model”, or the policy of hesitation;
5. A new “social contract” in Europe.
The author concludes his book wondering if we are heading towards a “European spring”.
