The Jacques Delors Agora: Europe’s Next Generation
The Académie Notre Europe in Paris, the Scuola di Politiche in Rome and the Academia Europea Leadership in Barcelona are pleased to organise the “Jacques Delors Agora” in Lisbon from the 1st to the 4th of July, five years after the “Budapest European Agora”. This event is organised in tribute to Jacques Delors, who passed away in December 2023. Around 130 young people (aged 18 to 35) from all across Europe and beyond will come together to discuss with European decision-makers and experts about the main challenges facing the EU and the priorities for the upcoming five years. Our event is for all young citizens, regardless of their backgrounds, giving a unique forum to gather, exchange ideas and determine Europe’s future.
This event is organised under the high patronage of the President of the Portuguese Republic and in partnership with the Portuguese National Parliament, the representation of the European Commission in Portugal, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the Municipality of Lisbon, the Bertelsmann Stiftung, the European Maritime Safety Agency, the Jacques Delors European Information Center and the Directorate-general for Economic Activities.
The program for these four days of meetings includes debates with leading European decision makers and participative activities (World café, simulation game, workshops). Topics of discussions will cover: political and institutional issues after the European Elections, economic and social challenges, the green and digital transitions, global challenges, defense and migration policies and EU enlargement. We will welcome several decision makers, including members of the European Commission and representatives of national governments, as well as renowned experts on EU affairs. The full program will be presented in a press conference on Monday 1st July 11:00 at the Representation of the European Commission in Portugal (Largo Jean Monnet, 1 – 10, 1269-068 Lisboa) in presence of Pascal Lamy, Sofia Moreira de Sousa and Sofia Fernandes.
As Jacques Delors said in his last speech in front of the European Parliament in 1995 “Come on, cheer up, Spring Day in Europe is still ahead of us!”.
