Sir Jonathan Faull is Head of European Affairs at the Brunswick Group and a board member of the Jacques Delors Institute. He had a distinguished career at the European Commission, working on a wide range of policies, including competition, justice and home affairs, transport, and financial services. He served as Director-General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union, and Director-General of the Task Force on Strategic Issues related to the UK Referendum.
At the European Commission, he was Director for Competition Policy at DG Competition, Deputy Director-General in charge of State Aid, Spokesperson and Director-General for Press and Communication, Director-General for Justice and Home Affairs, and later Director-General of the Internal Market and Services, before leading FISMA (Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union).
He studied law at the University of Sussex and holds a Master’s degree from the College of Europe in Bruges. He has been a visiting lecturer at Sciences Po, visiting fellow at the Centre for European Legal Studies, University of Cambridge, visiting professor at the College of Europe since 2009, emeritus professor of law at the Free University of Brussels (VUB) since 1989, and visiting professor at King’s College London. He is also a board member of the Centre for European Reform in London.
He was knighted in 2017 for his services to UK-European Union relations.
