Joachim Bitterlich

Joachim Bitterlich has been an independent consultant since 2013 and is a board member of the Jacques Delors Institute. He studied law, economics, and political science at Saarbrücken University, was an assistant at the same university, and a former foreign student at the ENA.

He had a diplomatic career, serving in Algeria and Brussels (Permanent Representation to the European Communities), as adviser to Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher, European Adviser to Chancellor Helmut Kohl, Ambassador to NATO, and later in Spain and Andorra. He was also Executive Vice-President of Veolia Environnement SA and Chairman of Veolia Germany.

Since 2008, he has been a Professor at ESCP and teaches at ILERI Paris and other institutions. He serves on numerous boards and committees, including the Franco-German Economic Circle, the Club Rhénan, the Robert Schuman Foundation, and the Jacques Delors Institute.
