Sofia Fernandes

Deputy Director

Sofia Fernandes is Deputy Director of the Jacques Delors Institute and Director of the Notre Europe Academy. She oversees the management and development of the Institute, as well as its civic activities and the promotion of Jacques Delors’ legacy. She has expertise in European social issues, including European employment policy, worker mobility, skills, social rights, and transition support.

She taught at ESPOL – Catholic University of Lille (2014-2020) and was a trainer for the European Institute of Public Administration (2013-2017). Before joining the Institute in 2010, she worked at the Jacques Delors European Information Center in Lisbon, the Permanent Representation of Portugal to the EU, and the Portuguese Institute for Quality – Ministry of Economy.

She holds a degree in European Affairs from the University of Lisbon and a Master’s degree in International Relations from the Higher Institute of Social and Political Sciences in Lisbon. She also studied at the University of Bologna.
