[FR] Euroquestions #106 | EU–Africa: a strategic partnership in need of reinvention?

Wednesday, 3 December, 3:00–3:30 p.m.

The EU-AU summit opens against a backdrop of global geopolitical realignment. Africa, long perceived as a secondary partner, is now at the heart of rivalries between emerging powers and traditional players. Faced with China’s rise, Russian activism and Turkish ambitions, the European Union must rethink its relationship with the African continent to avoid losing its influence and build balanced cooperation.

This partnership can no longer be limited to development aid. It is now a question of building a relationship based on shared interests: securing supply chains for critical raw materials, supporting the energy transition, promoting political stability and strengthening democratic governance. But how can these objectives be reconciled with the desire of African states to assert their sovereignty and diversify their alliances?

We are pleased to welcome Guillaume Arditti, associate researcher at the Jacques Delors Institute, to analyse the issues at stake at this summit and the avenues for a strategic partnership capable of responding to the challenges of the 21st century.
