[FR] Euroquestions #39 | Presidential election in France: what impact will it have on Europe?

On Sunday 24 April, the French people voted to re-elect President Emmanuel Macron for a second term. Advocating the development of ‘European sovereignty’ and the establishment of a strong Europe in a context of renewed conflict on the borders of the European Union, the president arrived on Sunday evening to the strains of the European anthem. This does not make France any less divided on the subject of Europe, between supporters of a Europe of Nations and those of a powerful Europe.

Thierry Chopin, special advisor at the Jacques Delors Institute and co-author of the study ‘Un Euroscepticisme à la française’ (French-style Euroscepticism), will analyse the impact that the result of the presidential election will have on France’s European policy and on the European Union itself.
