[FR] Euroquestions #67 | European defence in the face of the war in Ukraine

Russia’s aggression against Ukraine has reignited discussions on European defence. However, in February 2022, NATO reaffirmed its role as the key player in preserving European security (21 of the 27 EU Member States are members, pending the accession of Sweden and Finland). Nevertheless, the EU has not been inactive, both in terms of aid to Ukraine and in its initiative to develop a defence industry that remains fragmented. However, key questions remain: Faced with multiple crises, how should and can the EU organise itself to ensure its security? Will increased financial resources be enough to ensure progress towards European defence? How can the European defence industry be adapted, supported and monitored in the long war in Ukraine?
We are pleased to welcome Sylvie Matelly, Director of the Jacques Delors Institute and expert on defence issues.
