Title:
Rethinking Health Prevention: Europe as an Ally for (Finally) Comprehensive and Ambitious Public Policies
Background:
Our health is shaped throughout our lives by all our exposures — environmental, chemical, social, occupational, and lifestyle-related. 90% of disease risks are thought to be determined by these factors. This is the founding principle behind the concept of the exposome: a simple yet powerful idea that calls on Europe, and France, to rethink their health policies by making prevention not merely a complement to care, but a genuine pillar of their response.
How can this paradigm shift be translated into European and national public policies? How can we reduce inequalities in exposure? How can we tackle air pollution and hazardous substances? How can we ensure the sustainability of our solidarity-based social model? How can we make Europe a global leader in prevention?
To discuss these major challenges and explore prevention as a new pillar of a comprehensive health policy, the Jacques Delors Institute and Macif invite you to an exceptional roundtable on 27 October.
Speaker(s):
Isabella Annesi-Maesano, Research Director and Professor of Environmental Epidemiology at the University of Ferrara.
Benoît Biteau, Former Member of the European Parliament and Member of the Greens and Social Democratic group.
Damien Weidert, Director of the Office of the Presidency, Macif Santé Prévoyance.
Moderated by Stewart Chau, Deputy Director, Destin Commun.
With an opening address by Nathalie Mayance, Chair of Macif Santé Prévoyance and Vice-Chair of SGAM Macif, and closing remarks by Arnaud Magnier, Director of the Jacques Delors Institute.
What are the “European Encounters” from la Macif and the Jacques Delors Institute ?
In collaboration with the Jacques Delors Institute, la Macif organises three European Conversations each year dedicated to major issues currently debated in Brussels and likely to have a direct or indirect impact on its activities. Established several years ago, this partnership is now evolving with a renewed ambition: beyond bringing together the Macif community, these events aim to open discussions to a wider audience through accessible and inclusive conferences.
In 2026, three conferences will focus on key topics: the circular economy, European sovereignty and global health. They will take place at Macif’s premises, in the Keiko Amphitheatre in Issy-les-Moulineaux, easily accessible by public transport (RER C and Tramway T2 – Issy-Val de Seine stop). Each event will be followed by a cocktail reception, providing an opportunity to continue discussions and exchange with speakers and participants in a more informal setting.
