New scientific discoveries continue to reinforce with ever greater clarity the idea that climate change is one of the most important challenges facing humanity at the beginning of this century. It is therefore alarming to note that projections for greenhouse gas emissions will remain, for many years to come, virtually orthogonal to the reduction targets that need to be achieved in order to tackle the problem head-on.
Stephen Boucher sees the upcoming US presidential elections as a unique opportunity for Europe and the United States to work together to develop an effective global climate policy and design the instruments needed to meet climate stabilisation targets as quickly as possible.
