[FR] More Europe in the French media

This publication is available in french.

Jean-Michel Baer, former adviser on social issues, education, culture and communication in Jacques Delors’ cabinet, and Théo Verdier, Associate Expert at the Fondation Jean Jaurès and author of the study ‘The European Union, largely absent from television news’, give us their proposals for ‘injecting’ more Europe into the media as part of the reform of the French audiovisual sector.

The European elections in May 2019 saw an unprecedented turnout of EU citizens at the ballot box, with turnout reaching 50.6% at European level, more than 8 percentage points higher than in 2014. A similar rise in turnout was recorded in France. This surge in turnout in France is part of the overall momentum of European issues in the public debate following the 2017 presidential campaign. In this sense, the French appear to be re-evaluating the role of the EU as a relevant level for taking action to meet the challenges of our time, ranking the fight against climate change and economic development as their main reasons for going to the polls.
