[FR] Sylvie Matelly appointed Director of the Jacques Delors Institute to succeed Sébastien Maillard

With Sébastien Maillard soon to leave for London, the Board of Directors of the Jacques Delors Institute has appointed Sylvie Matelly as its new director, effective 1 October 2023.

The Jacques Delors Institute announces the appointment of Sylvie Matelly as its new Director, effective from the start of the next academic year. Sylvie Matelly is currently Deputy Director of the Institute for International and Strategic Relations (IRIS), a position she has held since 2016. She joined IRIS in 2001 as a researcher in international economics and defence, and is an expert in geopolitical and economic issues, particularly defence industries and policies, export controls and corruption. Between 2009 and 2016, she was a professor at the Léonard de Vinci School of Management (Paris-La Défense), where she headed the department of economics, finance, law and international relations. She has also published several reference works: ‘Can Europe cope with globalisation?’ with Bastien Nivet (Éditions La Découverte, 2015) and ‘Geopolitics of the economy’ (Éditions Eyrolles, 2021).

Sébastien Maillard, who has been in office since September 2017, will leave his position as director at the end of July to settle in London, from where he will advise the Institute and in particular our new Greater Europe Centre dedicated to enlargement and the European Political Community.

Enrico Letta, President of the Jacques Delors Institute, welcomes this announcement: “We are very pleased to announce the upcoming arrival of Sylvie Matelly as Director. Her geopolitical expertise will be invaluable in addressing the challenges ahead for Europe. I would like to express my sincere thanks to Sébastien Maillard for all his work, his dynamism and his commitment to Europe during his six years as director, during which time the Jacques Delors Institute has grown considerably. His analysis of new formats for building unity on our continent will be very useful.”
