Académie Notre Europe #7 – Migration and Human Rights in Europe

Académie Notre Europe – Session 7 – Migration and Human Rights in Europe

The seventh session will focus on migration issues and fundamental rights in the European Union. Throughout the day, participants will be invited to reflect on the evolution of European migration policy, from the Schengen Agreements to current debates on reception, borders, and solidarity among Member States. They will also examine the role of fundamental rights in the Union, in a context marked by numerous humanitarian crises.

The morning will begin with a vote on the name of the class of 2025–2026, in the presence of Sofia Fernandes, followed by a “news café” focusing on the major European issues of the day with Fabienne Keller, Member of the European Parliament and Quaestor.

Participants will then hear a presentation by Yves Pascouau on the evolution of European migration policy, from the Schengen Area to the most recent reforms. This session will provide an opportunity to review the main challenges facing the European Union in the areas of migration and asylum.

Finally, a roundtable discussion will focus on fundamental rights in the European Union. It will bring together François Thomas, president of SOS Méditerranée, and Tania Racho, a consultant at the Council of Europe. Their discussion will address issues related to the protection of fundamental rights, particularly in the context of European migration policies.
