“Circular Economy: A Strategic Lever for European Industrial Sovereignty, Decarbonisation and Territorial Revitalisation”

Background:

Gradually taking shape since the 1970s, the circular economy has now established itself as a key driver of economic and environmental transformation, and of industrial competitiveness in Europe. Faced with resource pressures, climate challenges and sovereignty concerns, it calls for producing differently, consuming less and making better use of resources.

Beyond waste recycling, the momentum is accelerating: the development of secondary raw materials, the rise of reuse, the extension of product lifespans… These are all levers redefining value creation and reshaping traditional business models. In this context, the European Commission is preparing an ambitious framework to accelerate the circularity of materials by 2030.

Speakers:

Jean-Louis Grosse-Delasalle is President of Macif, a leading mutual insurance company in France, where he oversees the group’s strategy, including its commitment to the circular economy.

Yann Arnaud is Business Director for Property & Casualty Insurance at Macif, where he supervises non-life insurance operations and works on adapting them to sustainability and circular economy challenges.

Emmanuelle Ledoux is Director General of the National Institute for the Circular Economy (INEC), France’s leading organisation on policies and practices for the transition to a circular economy.

Emmanuel Chaponnière is Head of the Circular Economy Division at the European Investment Bank (EIB), where he leads the EIB’s financing and strategies on circularity at a European scale.

Sofia Fernandes is Deputy Director of the Jacques Delors Institute and Director of the Notre Europe Academy.
