Stability and growth: perfecting the new European pact
With the relaunch of the debate on the balance between European solidarity and increased national reforms, Jacques Delors, António Vitorino and Notre Europe board of directors invite to perfect the new “European pact” which is being shaped on the basis of three complementary guidelines: the addition of a “growth protocol” to the fiscal compact; continued reforms to improve competitiveness and growth within European countries; strengthening the federal dimension of the EU.
The Greek and French elections – as well as the bleak forecasts for European growth – are giving new life to the debate on the balance between European solidarity in the face of serious, on-going crisis and increased responsibility and reforms from EU Member States. Jacques Delors, Antonio Vitorino and Notre Europe board of directors invite to examine this new state of affairs by clearly identifying the key elements that Europe will need in order to forge a global compromise capable of salvaging economic, social as well as political cohesion in the euro zone and in the entire EU.
They propose to perfect the new European pact which is being shaped on the basis of three complementary guidelines:
1 – The addition of a “growth protocol” to the fiscal compact.
2 – Continued reforms to improve competitiveness and growth within European countries.
3 – Strengthening the federal dimension of the European Union.
