Sébastien Maillard

Special Advisor, Centre Grande Europe

Sébastien Maillard is Special Adviser at the Jacques Delors Institute. Since September 2023, he has been working with the Centre Grande Europe, particularly on enlargement, EU–UK relations, and the European Political Community. He previously served as Director of the Jacques Delors Institute (2017–2023). Based in London, he is an Associate Fellow at Chatham House and a Visiting Senior Fellow at the European Institute at the London School of Economics.

A journalist by profession, he has covered European affairs, notably as Brussels correspondent for La Croix, where he also served as Rome (Vatican) correspondent. He is a regular contributor to the media (LCI, Le Monde, France Info, France 24) and has taught at Sciences Po and Boston College. He is the co-author, with Enrico Letta, of Faire l’Europe dans un monde de brutes (Fayard, 2017) and the author of Qu’avons-nous fait l’Europe ? (Salvator, 2013), with a foreword by Jacques Delors. He also compiled Jacques Delors’ landmark writings in Pour aujourd’hui et pour demain (Odile Jacob, 2025).

Sébastien Maillard holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Sciences Po Paris and a postgraduate degree (DESS) in Territorial Management from Aix-Marseille University. He was appointed Knight of the National Order of Merit in 2021 and Knight of the Legion of Honour in 2024. His working languages are French and English, and he has a good command of Italian.
