Sébastien Maillard

Special Advisor, Centre Grande Europe

Sébastien Maillard has been a special advisor at the Jacques Delors Institute on issues related to the Greater Europe Center since September 2023. He was director of the Jacques Delors Institute (2017-2023) and worked as an associate fellow at Chatham House in London. He now focuses on EU-UK relations and the European Political Community (EPC).

A journalist by training, he covered European affairs as a correspondent for La Croix in Rome and Brussels. He is a regular contributor to the media (Les Échos, Le Monde, France Culture) and has taught at Sciences Po and Boston College. He is the co-author, with Enrico Letta, of Faire l’Europe dans un monde de brutes (2017) and Qu’avons-nous fait l’Europe ? (2013), with a preface by Jacques Delors.

Sébastien Maillard holds a DESS in land use planning, management, and development (University of Aix-Marseille) and a master’s degree in public service (Sciences Po), with a study period at MGIMO. He is a Knight of the National Order of Merit (2021) and of the Legion of Honor (2024). His working languages are French and English, with some knowledge of German and Russian, and he is learning Italian.
