Philippe Pochet is a political scientist. He was Director of the Observatoire social européen (OSE) for over 15 years and then General Director of the European Trade Union Institute (ETUI) from 2008 to July 2023. He is also Professor at the Catholic University of Louvain.
He is currently Visiting Professor at the College of Europe in Bruges and Affiliate Professor at the Sant’Anna College. In November 2023 he was Ciampi Visiting Scholar at the Scuola Normale Superiore (SNS) in Florence.
Philippe has been a visiting scholar at the University of California-Berkeley, the University of Montreal and the Centre for European Studies, Harvard University, assistant professor at the Business School, Dpt Industrial Relations, Griffith University, Brisbane, from 2006 to 2009 and Visiting Senior Fellow at the London School of economics and political science (LSE) from 2017 to 2019. In 2005, he was awarded an EU Fulbright-in-Residence at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA).
Philippe is also co-editor of Transfer, the European Review of Labour and Research Quarterly.
He is the author of several books, including “A la recherche de l’Europe sociale”, PUF 2019, and over 200 articles. His areas of interest are social policy in its various dimensions (employment, social protection, etc.), including in relation to economic and monetary policy, European social dialogue and economic and monetary governance. In recent years, he has focused mainly on the social implications of technological and societal changes linked to climate change.
