Robert Badinter

French politician, former Minister of Justice and President of Constitutional Council

Robert Badinter is French politician, criminal lawyer, university professor (1966-1981) and mainly known for his struggle against the death penalty, the abolition of which he successfully sponsored in Parliament in 1981. A member of the Socialist Party (PS), he served as Minister of Justice (1981-1986) and then President of Constitutional Council (1986-1995) under François Mitterrand.
