Frans Timmermans

First Vice-President of the European Commission

Frans Timmermans is a Dutch politician and diplomat serving as the First Vice-President of the European Commission and European Commissioner for Better Regulation, Interinstitutional Relations, the Rule of Law and the Charter of Fundamental Rights since 2014. He previously served as Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2012 to 2014 and State Secretary for European Affairs from 2007 to 2010. He was a member of the House of Representatives from 1998 to 2007 and 2010 to 2012. He is a member of the Labour Party, part of the Party of European Socialists. He was a Dutch civil servant in the Government of the Netherlands from 1987 to 1998, until he became active in politics.
