L’Union Européenne s’est engagée, dans le cadre de sa réforme de la Politique Agricole Commune entrant en vigueur en 2023, à développer une agriculture “plus juste, plus verte et davantage fondée sur les résultats”. Parmi les objectifs de sa stratégie “de la ferme à la table” figurent une réduction de 55 % des émissions de gaz à effet de serre et une réduction de 50 % des pesticides d’ici à 2030.
Toutefois, la guerre en Ukraine et l’arrêt des exportations qu’elle implique pourraient causer un « ouragan de famines » selon le Secrétaire général de l’ONU, Antonio Guterres. Dans ce contexte, l’augmentation de la production agricole européenne pour pallier la crise alimentaire naissante fait débat parmi les dirigeants des Etats membres et pourrait remettre en cause les objectifs écologiques fixés.
Geneviève Pons, Directrice Générale du think tank Europe Jacques Delors à Bruxelles, reviendra sur l’impact causé par le conflit en Ukraine sur le modèle agricole européen et sur son évolution future.
