What language(s) for the European Union?
This Synthesis by Virginie Timmerman explains the arguments of the debate “Multilingualism: strength or weakness?” organised on 17 June 2014 by Notre Europe – Jacques Delors Institute, EuroCité and Europartenaires.
On 17 June 2014, Notre Europe – Jacques Delors Institute, in partnership with EuroCité and Europartenaires, organised the seventh seminar of the cycle “European public space: Heading towards the European elections” about “Multilingualism: strength or weakness?”.
Virginie Timmerman, project manager Citizenship and Democracy, summarised the seminar around its three main elements:
1. Multilingualism in norms and monolingualism in practice
2. Preserving multilingualism and strengthening the European public space
3. Overcoming obstacles and resistance
Notre Europe – Jacques Delors Institute, Eurocité and Europartenaires would like to thank the Representation of the European Commission in France for hosting this cycle.
