Académie Notre Europe – Europe in the world session
The multiple crises we are currently experiencing - ecological, geopolitical or economic - are forcing Europe to adapt and adopt new strategies to exist in a more brutal world. The war in Ukraine triggered by Russia and the latent trade tensions that continue between the United States and China are reshuffling the cards of the global balance every day. In this context, can the European Union continue to be the soft power described in history and geopolitics books? How can Europe develop its strategic autonomy in order to strengthen its capacity to influence the world? What future for the values defended by the European Union in a climate of increased tensions? To start the day, we will welcome Marine Pouget, Head of International Governance at the Climate Action Network, for a café-culture on international cooperation in the fight against climate change. Lukas Macek, Head of the Centre Grande Europe, newly created by the Jacques Delors Institute, will then talk about the enlargement of Europe to the Western Balkans and the creation of the European Political Community. Finally, Pascal Lamy, President Emeritus of the Jacques Delors Institute, will discuss the major challenges facing the EU at a time of renewed military and trade tensions.
